50g per 226m, 55% Nylon, 45% AcrylicThe project requires small amounts of different colours. Feel free to use any oddments of yarn in DK weight.

Using double-pointed needles cast on the required number of stitches. Do not turn. Slide stitches to the opposite end of the needle, then knit stitches again taking the yarn firmly across the back of work. Repeat to desired length.
Making
Farmer: Body and head
With G, cast on 20 sts
Rows 1-2:: Knit.
Rows 3-14: Starting with a RS k row, work 12 rows in St st.
Row 15: K5, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k5. 18 sts
Rows 16-20: Starting with a WS p row, work 5 rows in St st.
Row 21 (Shape neck): [K1, k2tog] to end. 12 sts
Row 22: Change to H and purl.
Row 23: K3, [kfb] six times, k3. 18 sts
Rows 24-26: Starting with a WS p row, work 3 rows in St st
Row 27 (shape eyeline): K3, [k2tog, k1] four times, k3. 14 sts
Rows 28-30: Starting with a WS p row, work 3 rows in St st
Row 31: [K2, k2tog] 3 times, k2. 11 sts
Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
Farmer: Arms (make two)
With H, cast on 3 sts and work i-cord for 5 rows.
Break yarn and thread through sts.
Pull tight to fasten.

With J, cast on 30 sts.
Rows 1-3: Knit
Row 4 (WS): K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 5: Knit
Rows 6-22: Repeat rows 4-5, ending with row 4.
Row 23: [K1, k2tog] to end. 20 sts
Cast off.
Farmer: Sleeves (make two)
With J, cast on 10 sts
Rows 1-5: Starting with a WS p row, work 5 rows in St st.
Row 6: [K2, k2tog] twice, k2. 8 sts
Row 7: Purl
Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
Farmer: Hat
With I, cast on 9 sts
Row 1( WS): Purl
Row 2: [Kfb] in each st to end. 18 sts
Rows 3-6: Starting with a WS p row, work 4 rows in St st.
Row 7: K for edge.
Row 8 (brim): [Kfb] in each st. 36 sts
Cast off.
Farmer: To make up
With fastened-off yarn end, sew head to neck. With cast-on yarn end, sew body to neck. Stuff head and work a gathering thread along neck. Pull tightly. With same yarn, work a gathering thread over eyeline on face, pull gently to shape dent. With H, make French knot for nose. With dark brown DK, French knot the eyes.To make hair and beard, make backstitches with grey boucle yarn, leaving small loops.
Alternatively, use 2 strands taken from grey DK. Attach cast-off end of coat to neck, fold front to create lapels. Seam sleeve with arm inside and stitch arm to sleeve at wrist. Attach sleeves to body. Seam hat and attach it to head.

With A, cast on 20 sts.
Rows 1-2: Knit
Rows 3-18: Starting with a RS row, work16 rows in St st.
Row 19: K5, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k5. 18 sts
Rows 20-22: Starting with a WS p row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 23: [K1, k2tog] to end. 12 sts
Rows 24-32: Starting with a WS p row, work 9 rows in St st.
Row 33: [K1, k2tog] to end. 8 sts
Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
Donkey: Mane
Wind 2 or 3-ply dark brown yarn around card cut to 2 x 6cm 50 times. Sew centre twice over same line with cotton thread, together with card. Cut sides, tear card from centre and release card.
Donkey: Ears (make two)
With A, cast on 4 sts
Rows 1-6: Beg with a WS p row, work 6 rows in St st.
Row 7: [P2tog] twice, pass first st over second and fasten off.
Donkey: To make up
With fastened-off yarn end, seam body and stuff top end for head. With seam on tummy, stitch chin to neck, using a few ladder stitches. Attach ears at cast-on edges. With 4-ply dark brown, French knot the eyes. With 4-ply dark brown, make small backstitches for nostrils. With 4-ply dark brown, attach mane, sewing over cotton thread.
Dog: Body and head
With B, work as for Donkey.
Dog: Ears (make two)
With C, cast on 3 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Skpo, k1. 2 sts
Row 2: P2tog and fasten off.
Dog: To make up
See Donkey for basic assembly. With 4-ply dark brown, French knot the eyes and embroider mouth and nose with backstitches.
Cat: Body and head
With D, work as for Donkey to row 30. 12 sts
Rows 31-32: change to B and work 2 rows in St st.
Row 33: [K1, k2tog] to end. 8 sts
Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
Cat: Ears (make two)
With D, work as for Dog.
Cat: To make up
See Donkey for basic assembly. With 4-ply dark brown, embroider eyes, mouth and nose with backstitches.With 4-ply brown, embroider whiskers with backstitches.

Rows 3-16: Change to E and work14 rows in St st, starting with a RS k row.
Row 17: [K1, k2tog] to last 2 sts, k2. 14 sts
Rows 18-22: Starting with a WS p row, work 5 rows in St st.
Row 23: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. 12 sts
Rows 24-28: Change to F and work 5 rows in St st, starting with a WS p row.
Row 29: [K1, k2tog] to end. 8 sts
Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.

Row 2: K2tog and fasten off.

With fastened-off yarn end, sew head down to chin. From chin, seam body to cast-on edge, using E. Stuff head and stitch chin to neck as for Donkey. Attach ears. With 4-ply dark brown, French knot the eyes and embroider nose and mouth with backstitches.
