Practical tips
• Leave a long end at the beginning and end of each piece for sewing
• Sew seams with RS facing, using mattress stitch.
• The flowers are a good way to try out the basic crochet stitches but if you are not too keen on crochet, you can improvise by cutting out flowers from felt fabric.
Tension
24 sts and 32 rows for 10 x 10 cm tension square over St st (not essential).

Making
Strawberry: Large
Make as many of each size as you wish.
With yarn A or B, cast on 10 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: [Kfb] 10 times. 20 sts
Rows 3-5: Starting with a p row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 6: [K2, k2tog] 5 times. 15 sts
Rows 7-9: Starting with a p row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 10: Kl, [k2tog] 7 times. 8 sts
Row 11: Purl.
Break yarn, thread through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
Strawberry: Medium
With yarn A or B, cast on 8 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: [Kfb] 8 times. 16 sts
Rows 3-5: Starting with a p (WS) row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 6: [K2, k2tog] 4 times. 12 sts
Rows 7-9: Starting with a p row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 10: [K2tog] 6 times. 6 sts
Row 11: Purl.
Break yarn, thread through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
Strawberry: Tiny
With yarn G, work as for medium strawberry.
Leaf cap: For large strawberry

Leaf cap: For medium strawberry
With yarn C or D and crochet hook, [make 3 ch, ss in first ch] 5 times. Fasten off.
Leaf cap: For tiny strawberry
Separate 3 plies from strand of yarn C or D. Holding the 3 plies together, work as for medium strawberry cap.
To make up strawberry
Seam and stuff strawberry. Stitch together the ends of leaf cap and attach it to strawberry.
Leaf: Large
Make as many of each size as you wish to fill the basket.
With yarn C or D, cast on 5 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Pfb, p to end. 6 sts
Row 2: Kfb, k to end. 7 sts
Rows 3-4: Repeat rows 1-2. 9 sts
Rows 5-6: Starting with a prow, work 2 rows in St st.
Row 7: P2tog, p to last 2 sts, p2tog. 7 sts
Row 8: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. 5 sts
Row 9: P2tog, pl, p2tog. 3 sts
Row 10: Sl1, k2tog. Pass the first st over the second and fasten off.
Leaf: Small
With yarn C or D, cast on 5 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Pfb, p to end. 6 sts
Row 2: Kfb, k to end. 7 sts
Row 3: Pfb, p to end. 8 sts
Rows 4-6: Starting with a k row, work 3 rows in St st.
Row 7: P2tog, p to last 2 sts, p2tog. 6 sts
Row 8: K2tog, k2, k2tog. 4 sts
Row 9: [P2tog] twice. Pass the first st over the second and fasten off.
Flower
With yarn F and working into a magic ring, 5 de, join with a ss in first de. 5 sts
Change to yarn E.
Rnd 1: (2 ch, 1 htr, 2 ch, ss) in first st, [(ss, 2 ch, 1 htr, 2 ch, ss) in next st] 4 times.
Fasten off.
To make up
Place a small amount of toy stuffing in basket. Attach two small leaves on top side of large leaf, leaving one of the yarn ends free. Arrange leaves on basket and secure them to basket, using the free yarn ends.
Place strawberries between the leaves. Secure strawberries to basket if you wish. Attach flowers to leaves.
