Special technique: i-cord
Using double-pointed needles cast on the required number of stitches. Do not turn. Slide stitches to the opposite end of the needle, then knit stitches again taking the yarn firmly across the back of work. Repeat to desired length.

With B, cast on 4 sts and work 10 rows in i-cord throughout rows 12-14.
Row 11: K1, k2tog, k1. 3 sts. Continue i-cord.
Row 12: Knit.
Row 13: Skpo, k1. 2 sts
Row 14: Skpo and fasten off.
<ANTLERS>: Small side piece (make two)
With B, cast on 3 sts and work 4 rows in i-cord. Continue i-cord throughout rows 5-6.

<ANTLERS>: TAIL
With A, cast on 5 sts and work 4 rows in St st, starting with a p row, Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.
<ANTLERS>: TO MAKE UP
Fold leg in half horizontally and work a gathering thread to the edge of foot. Sew each hind leg. Sew edge of tummy to cast-on edge. Work on both legs.
Fold the remaining cast-on edge outwards and sew together to make an allowance for the bottom.
Repeat for front legs. Sew tummy edge to cast-off edge.
Connect the two front edges together and sew chest, chin and head.
Stuff body and close the tummy. Seam tail and attach it to Body. Sew short antler to main piece and attach antlers to head. With yarn B, French knot eyes. Attach ribbon and bell to neck. Wrap 3-ply brown yarn around neck for rein.
<Santa>: BODY
With C, cast on 8 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: [Kfb] in each st to end. 16 sts
Row 3: Purl.
Row 4: [K1, kfb] to end. 24 sts
Row 5: Purl.
Rows 6-7: Join D and k 2 rows.
Row 8: With C, k12, with D, k1, with C, k11.
Rows 9-11: Starting with a p row and keeping yarns correct, work 3 rows in St st.

<Santa>: TO MAKE UP
With fastened-off yarn end, sew Body seam closed from Head down to neck.
Keep this yarn end free at neck. With cast-on yarn end, work a gathering thread along cast-on edge and pull tightly. Sew Body closed from base up to waist and stuff, avoiding neck area. With yarn F left at neck, work a gathering thread around neck and pull tightly. Using same yarn, work a gathering thread on face over eyeline and pull gently to shape dent. Make a French knot in yarn F. With yarn B, make French knots for eyes. Seam boots. Thread a needle with yarn G and insert it from sole, taking it out from ankle and repeat. Pull thread to flatten sole and shape ankle.
Wrap boot with trouser leg and secure boot to hem. Seam trouser leg. Attach legs to body. Seam and attach hat and arms. Attach beard.
